Russian anchorman beaten to death in Far East

MOSCOW, Jan 22 (Reuters) An Russian anchorman for a television station in the Far East was beaten to death over the weekend after leaving a nightclub, the prosecutor-general's office said in a statement today.

Konstantin Borovko, 25, was beaten up by a group of unidentified people in the early hours of Saturday in the city of Vladivostok, on Russia's Pacific coast, according to the statement.

''He was beaten up and his mobile telephone was stolen,'' the prosecutor-general's office said in a statement on its Web site www.genproc.gov.ru. ''Borovko died as a result of his injuries.'' He was found in the street in the early hours. It was unclear whether the killing was linked to his job.
