Mysore, Jan 22 (UNI) Hundreds of farmers led by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) today took out a rally against acquisition fertile land around the City by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

Farmers, under the banner of 'Bhoomi Thayi Horata Samithi' and members of Dalit Sangarsha Samithi, who gathered at Town Hall took out procession in the main streets and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging for cancellation of the notification issued for acquisition of thousands of acres of fertile land.

Addressing the farmers KRRS president K S Puttaniah alleged that KIADB wanted to acquire fertile and irrigated land and hand it over to Information Technology giants and Multinational Companies.

"Acquisition of more than 7000 acres of irrigated land was tantamount to 'up rooting' thousands of families depended on agriculture", he added.

Mr Puttaniah urged the Government to form a Committee of Experts to frame guidelines for acquisition of lands. "If the acquisition was found necessary the KIADB should not only pay farmers compensation at the prevailing market rate but also provide a share in the company and job", he demanded.
