NWDA get 41 crore grants for river link studies

New Delhi, Jan 22: The National Water Development Authority had been provided (NWDA) Rs 41 crore grant-in-aid for studies on interlinking of rivers.

The amount spent by NWDA upto October 2006 was Rs 10.45 crore and grants-in-aid received by NWDA for studies on interlinking during the last two years, 2004-06, was Rs 38 crore.

The NWDA was set up in July 1982 in the Union Ministry of Water Resources Ministry to take up feasibility studies of peninsular components of the river link. In 1990-91, the studies on Himalayam component was assigned to the NWDA in 2006 and Detailed Project reports of the river link projects and pre-feasibility reports of intra-state links were also included.
