Mithili Raj smashes unbeaten 101 for Central Zone

Mysore, Jan 22 (UNI) Team India skipper Mithili Raj smashed a brilliant 101 to power central zone to a thrilling nine-run win over West Zone in the Womens' one-day All India inter zonal Women's one-day league here today.

In the match played at Gangotri Glades, Mithili struck eleven boundaries in her 122-ball knock and helped Central post a healthy 204 for seven. Jaya Sharma chipped in with 39 for Central. For West Devika emerged as the most successful bowler claiming 3 for 27.

In reply, West were restricted for 195 for seven in the allotted 50 overs despite Sunitha Paranjape making a valient 49. Romali Dhir and Nitu David claimed two wickets apiece for Central zone.

In the other match played at Infosys grounds, South Zone thrashed East 103 runs. Batting first, South made 164 with Karuna Jain top scoring with 39. In reply, East zone were skittled out for a paltry 61 in 37.1 overs with Savina Neerala claiming 3 for 19 for South.

The national sectors Sangeetha Debir, Anju Jain and Vrunda Bhagat are here to watch the players' performances to select the national Womens' Cricket team that plays in the Quadrangular Touranment featuring Australia, New Zealand and Engaland besides hosts India.

The tournament would begin in Chennai next month.

Brief scores: South Zone 164/6 (Karuna Jain 39, Kavitha Rai 3/37) beat East Zone 61 (Savina Neerala 3/19).

Central Zone 204/7 (Mithaliraj 101 n.o., Jaya Sharama 39, Devika 3/27, Sima Pujari 2 for 42) beat West Zone 195/7 (Sunitha Paranjape 49).
