Mayawati demands President's rule in UP; BSP dharna on Jan 31

Lucknow, Jan 22 (UNI) In wake of the recent rape of two madarsa students in Allahabad as well as the Nithari and Kavita Rani cases, BSP supremo Mayawati today asserted there should not be any further delay in imposing President's rule in Uttar Pradesh.

''In the back-drop of such heinous crimes, the Governor should not delay any further and send a report to the centre recommending President's Rule,'' she added.

Ms Mayawati, along with party general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Satish Chandra Mishra, met governor T V Rajeswar to this evening submit a memorandum in this regard.

During her over 70 minutues meeting with the Governor, Ms Mayawati urged him to sent a letter to the Mulayam Singh Yadav government for a CBI probe into the Allahabad madarsa incident.

''I have already said jungle raj prevails in UP in the present regime and if nothing is done, the situation might get out of control,'' she warned.

The BSP leader said the governor gave her a patient hearing and assured to take appropriate steps.

Earlier in a press meet, she announced the party would hold a state-wide demonstration at all the 17 divisional headquarters on January 31 against the Allahabad incident.

Reiterating demand for CBI probe in the Allahabad incident, where two madarsa students were raped, she alleged criminals and mafias having links with the ruling Samajwadi Party were behind the crime.

She also raised concern over the detection of skulls and human bones in other parts of UP, including Etah.

''Now the situation in UP is very serious...even males fear to venture outside after sunset,'' the BSP supremo claimed.

She noted it would be her last meeting with the Governor. ''If he does not dismiss the state government now, there is no reason for calling upon him again before the UP assembly poll.'' Meanwhile, Ms Mayawati announced holding of a state-wide 'Satta Praapta Karo - Sankalp rally' on March 1 in view of the coming assembly poll. The party also held a meeting of senior leaders in the state capital today.
