Malaysia looks at India for help to check forest fires

Hyderabad, Jan 22 (UNI) Malaysia is looking at India for providing more accurate imagery to help check forest fires, the incidence of which is very high in South East Asia.

Talking to reporters here along with Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, Malayasian Environment minister Data Seri Haji Ajmi Bin Khalid said forest fires occurred only in 10 per cent of the hotspots spotted by satellites.

''I hope that India will come out with technology for more accurate prediction of forest fires,'' he said, adding that India offered world-class geospatial products at an affordable cost to Malaysia.

As both the countries had good bilateral relations, Mr Sibal said he saw ''great opportunities'' for cooperation in the geospatial segment between the two nations.
