Life of Nithari killings' whistle blower in jeopardy

New Delhi, Jan 22: The life of gritty social worker Usha Thakur, who blew the lid off the macabre serial killings of children in Nithari village in Noida, near here, is reportedly in danger.

Speaking to UNI over the phone, she accepted being threatened once by a tall and menacingly well-built man but admitted having not seen him in the vicinity since.

Ms Thakur claims to have run from pillar to post, knocking at the doors of the corridors of power before the media woke up from its ''blissful slumber''.

The President, Prime Minister, Home secretary, Women Commission, Human Rights Commission, BSP supremo Mayawati, UP Congress Chief Salman Khurshid and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav all were approached by her, but to no avail.

Determined to fight tooth and nail for justice, the granddaughter of famous Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar says, ''I am not the one to lose sleep over it,'' adding in the same vein, ''the people around will take care of any troublemakers,''.

It is because of the nexus among the criminals, police and the politicians that the crime continued unabated in the area, she said, laying the blame squarely on the system.
