Patna, Jan 22 (UNI) JD(U) leader in Bihar Assembly Prof Aslam Azad today demanded the Centre to amend the constitution for providing reservation to the muslim minorities as per population and their socio-economic status.

During the meeting organised to discuss the Sachhar committee report in Imarte Sahriya, Mr Azad said the religion based reservation would be illegal as per the existing law.

He said it was the responsibility of the Centre to amend the law to make provisions for reservation of the muslims as per their population and socio-economic status.

He said the dalit muslims too should be given reservation as it had been provided to the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe.

Holding the Congress directly responsible for the backwardness of the muslims, Mr Azad said Congress had 'emotionally blackmailed' the communnity since independence.
