Restore Jantar Mantar glory; SC notice to Centre
New Delhi, Jan 22: The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Union government and other respondents on a PIL seeking directions to the authorities concerned to restore the glory and functioning of Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The petitioner, Ravindranath Sharma, told a bench comprising Justice B N Aggarwal and Justice P P Naolekar that the Jantar Mantar used for ascertaining the movement of planets as well as deciding the dates of festival is lying defunct due to total negligence on the part of the authorities.
The petitioner also told the court that Jantar Mantars in Ujjain, Varanasi and Jaipur are functional while the one in Delhi is not being utilised. Jantar Mantar in Mathura has already been closed down.
The court directed the authoritires to file their response.
