Highway robber nabbed

Kohima, Jan 22 (UNI) The Highway Police Patrol of Kohima arrested a member of a highway gang from Zubza area on NH 39 and seized two AK56 Assault Rifles, three magazines, two mobile phones, one SIM card, 25 rounds of live ammunitions and Rs 7,100 from his possession.

Police said five highway robbers were extorting money in Zubza area on the NH 39 when Highway Police Patrol arrived on the spot.

All of them tried to flee on a mini truck.

Police chased them but they stopped the vehicle and fled towards the jungle.

While police party managed to arrest one of the gang members, along with arms and ammunition, who was also injured. Four others managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Police suspected that the robbers might be from some underground factions as they possess such weapons.

However, interrogation was on, sources said.
