Govt committed to transfer powers to local bodies: Congress

Hyderabad, Jan 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today said the government was committed to delegate powers to Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) as per the Constitution.

Addressing mediapersons here, APCC Spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said Congress was the party that took the initiative to transfer powers to local bodies.

Alleging that the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had weakened local bodies during its regime and reduced financial allocation, Mr Reddy said MPTC members should not yield under pressure from the TDP, which had recently announced that it would support the MPTC Association's fight for more powers.
