'Ginger' hotels comes up near Guwahati

Guwahati, Jan 22: Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here today said the state has high potential of tourism.

Speaking to mediapersons at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Roots Corporation 'Ginger,' the GenNext-smart basic hotels, the company Chief Executive Officer Prabhat Pani said a 100-room 'Ginger smart basics' hotel at upper Hengrabari will be built at a cost of Rs 10 crores as a part of its expansion strategy. Root Corporation is a subsidiary of the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL).

He said the 'smart basics' concept created a revolution in the World of Indian hospitality as a GenNext category of hotel signifies simplicity, informality, style, and affordability.

''We have purchased one acre of land for the project near the city. The project would be completed within next ten months of time,'' he added.

Mr Pani said Root Corporation was also gearing up for a nationwide launch of hotels as both the union and state government had given priority for tourism development. Works were in progress for hotels at Goa, Pondicherry, Agartala and Pantna.

Next chain of Ginger hotels would be set up at Durgapur in West Bengal and Nasik, he said adding negotiations were on for setting up such projects at Baroda, Ahmedabad, Mangalore and Paradip.

Ginger group of hotels are presently operational in Bangalore, Haridwar, Bhubaneshwar, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram and Pune, Mr Pani said.
