Central team to visit Asom to review security

New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) The centre would review the security scenario in Asom tomorrow in view of the recent spate of attacks by the United Liberation Front of Asom and the coming National Games in the state.

A central team headed by a senior official of the Home Ministry looking after North Eastern affairs would visit Guwahati tomorrow and hold discussion with senior officials of the state government on the issue of insurgency in the state.

The Centre has already deployed 50 battalions of Central paramilitary forces in Asom following ULFA attacks which claimed about 70 lives in the state.

Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal had visited Asom and assured all possible assistance to the state in dealing with the violence and insurgency.

The Centre had deployed army and para-military forces which were flushing insurgents from the jungles and arresting and neutralising them.
