Bill to convert constituent colleges to govt colleges
Chennai, Jan 22 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today introduced a Bill in the Assembly to convert constituent colleges of Universities into government colleges as they existed prior to 2002.
Introducing the Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Act-2007 in the House, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy said in 2002, all Government colleges of Arts and Science and Education were converted into constituent colleges of Universities concerned by making suitable amendments to the respective Acts of the Universities.
The conversion was made expecting improvement in the field of research in the colleges and funds from Central government the agencies at the centre and others to improve infrastructure.
The functioning of constituent colleges of Universities was examined in consultation with the Director of Collegiate Education.
As the examination revealed that the conversion of constituent colleges had not yielded the expected results, it had been decided to convert constituent colleges of the Universities into government colleges as they existed before 2002, he added.
