AP to launch pilot GIS project
Hyderabad, Jan 22 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will shortly launch a pilot scheme by utilising the Geographical Information System (GIS) Technology to minimise the impact of natural calamities, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said today.
Presiding over the Map World Forum organised by the GIS Development in collaboration with Science and Technology Ministry, Dr Reddy said the pilot project would be taken up in 10 villages each in flood-prone Nellore district and drought-prone Kadapa district.
The Government had already taken up a pilot GIS-based study in Nizamabad to compile vital information relating to land holdings, he informed, adding the scheme would be extended to the entire state shortly.
The State Government was committed to use this technology for environmental protection, mapping of natural resources, groundwater exploration, hydrological assessment of water bodies, including irrigation tanks, he informed.
