Advocates association to pass resolution on judges' row
Ahmedabad, Jan 22 (UNI) The Gujarat High Court Advocates Association will tomorrow pass a resolution, on the basis of a secret ballot, about the demand for a Supreme Court inquiry into the clash between two senior judges here recently.
Judge B J Shethna had allegedly roughed up his brother judge, P B Majmudar, in the Judge's Bungalow area of the city recently.
Over 115 advocates, in a representation to the Advocates Association president, had said that in view of the controversy, public confidence in the administration of justice should not be shaken. Therefore, an inquiry must be conducted by the Supreme Court and the Centre so that the truth comes out. It was urged that the Association convene a special meeting and pass resolutions in this regard.
Citing media reports which alleged that the row between the two judges could be a fallout of an April 2006 order of Justice Shethna that indicted Justice Majmudar's son, the advocates had said the State Bar Council should collect all relevant details about the judges and their relatives practising in the same courts, and send them to the Bar Council of India.
