Action in textbooks sale case

Betul, MP, Jan 22 (UNI) Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Director Surjeet Singh Chouhan, has said action would be initiated against the District Project Coordinator in a case relating to seizing of textbooks - that were supposed to have been distributed for free under the Rajiv Gandhi Shiksha Mission -- from a scrap-dealers' godown.

''The Chief Minister has taken a very serious view of the matter, formed different investigation teams and sought a report. A statewide probe is underway. On November 13, 2006, a similar case surfaced in Shajapur,'' Mr Chouhan, brother of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, told UNI over telephone.

He probed the matter in various areas of the district yesterday.

Mr Chouhan is to submit his report today to the Chief Minister, School Education Minister and the Principal Secretary.

''Three teachers, who were found prima facie guilty, have been suspended. The scrap-dealer and two teachers have been jailed,'' he added.
