About 90 candidates for first phase poll

Imphal, Jan 22 (UNI) About 90 candidates have filed their nominations for the first phase of state legislative Assembly polls on February 8.

The Congress had fielded altogether 20 candidates in 19 constituencies.

The Congress in a notification had stated that A S Arthur would be the official candidate at Ukhrul. Mr Arthur had replaced Aleng.

However, the final list would be known after the completion of withdrawal process, official sources said.

The Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) has fielded eight candidates, the NCP and RJD five each and the CPI four.

Meanwhile, the nomination process for the second phase of elections scheduled for February 14 began today.

In the second phase, elections would be held at Bishenpur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
