7 killed as jeep tumbles down 400-foot-deep cliff

Shillong, Jan 22 (UNI) At least seven people died on the spot and an equal number were seriously injured in an accident at the NH 44 near Sunapur in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills district early today.

According to official reports, the accident happened at around O130 hrs at Sunarpur, about 90 km from here.

Police said a jeep, carrying 13 passengers from here to Guwahati in Asom, skidded off the road and fell 400 feet down a cliff.

Meanwhile, police officials have refused comment on the the cause of the mishap stating that the investigation was on.

The injured were rushed to Jowai Civil Hospital here, police said.
