6 Ardh Kumbh pilgrims killed, 32 injured in road accidents

Lucknow, Jan 22 (UNI) At least six Ardh Kumbh Mela pilgrims were killed and 32 others injured in two road accidents in Uttar Pradesh today.

A report from Pratapgarh said four pilgrims, including three women, died on the spot and six others were injured, after a jeep collided head-on with a truck in Hatigavan area.

Police said the jeep was on its way to Ardh Kumbh Nagar, Allahabad, when the accident occurred.

The deceased were identified as Radhey Shyam (45), Vidhyavasini (60), Rekha (40) and Sarla Pandey (40).

The injured were rushed to Allahabad.

In another incident, two people lost their life and 26 others sustained grievous injuries, after a speeding private bus rammed into a roadside tree in Jaunpur district.

The accident took place near Uchaura village in Panvara area.

A pregnant woman identified as Matoli Devi (32) and Ram Singh (50) succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

The injured were rushed to hospital, where the condition of 21 was stated to be critical.
