UP traders to oppose big retail outlets

Lucknow, Jan 21 (UNI) Apprehending unemployment and winding up of family businesses, Uttar Pradesh traders will oppose opening up of big retail outlets and Malls in the state .

Traders under the banner of UP Udogyog Vyapyar Pratinidhi Mandal will hold demonstrations on February six and will chalk out a planned strategy in March to opppose the big industrial houses' plans to open Malls.

Talking to mediapersons here today , Mandal's president and ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha member Banwari Lal Kanchal said following opening of retail outlets by big industrial houses, more than 160 million traders would be left jobless in the country.

''Traders will oppose the opening of any retail outlets in the state and urge Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and UP Development Council chairman Amar Singh to look into the issue seriously,'' he maintained.

He added the state government would be asked not to allot any land to the retail chains for construction Malls, in which these retail companies would open their shops.
