Security beefed up in Kashmir ahead of R-Day

Srinagar, Jan 21 (UNI) Security across Kashmir has been upgraded to the maximum levels to prevent militants from carrying out terror attacks in the Valley ahead of the Republic Day.

The Save Kashmir Movement (SKM), a militant organisation, has asked the people and the students to stay away from the Republic Day celebrations in the Kashmir valley.

The government employees and other officials should also remain away from the celebrations on January 26, SKM spokesman Kamran Aslam said in a statement to the local media here recently.

He also asked the state Cultural Academy and other organisations not to send the students on the Republic Day functions.

To thwart any attempt by militants to create disturbances ahead of the Republic Day, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will deploy an additional eight companies in Srinagar.

CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi told UNI that the force as many as ten companies have been released for enhancing the security levels in both Jammu and Srinagar for the Republic Day.

Out of these, he said eight companies would be deployed in Srinagar and two in Jammu.

Mr Tripathi said the personnel of these companies were at present undergoing training and have been released for the purpose. They would return to their training camps after the Republic Day celebrations were over, he added.
