Rajnath to name candidate for Amritsar Parliamentary seat

Jalandhar, Jan 21 (UNI) The BJP Parliamentary Board has authorised party president Rajnath Singh to decide the name of the party candidates for the Amritsar Lok Sabha bye-election and the two remaining assembly seats.

Talking to reporters here today, BJP Punjab unit president Avinash Rai Khanna said that the tickets for the above three seats would be finalised by the president in a day or two.

Mr Khanna also expressed hope that the Supreme Court will stay the punishment awarded by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to former party MP Navjot Singh Sidhu in a 19-year old road rage case so the party may refield Mr Sidhu from Amritsar.

Meanwhile, the party was in the process of drafting its election manifesto, which would have commitment for people's welfare with higher priority to the rural and poor masses, he added.

He said that party would favour cheap flour and pulses to poor and would include also include free education for all upto higher secondary leve in its manifesto.
