Prof murder: Jamuna fails to depose

Ujjain, MP, Jan 21 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Jamuna Devi has sought further time to have her statement recorded in a case regarding the local Madhav College's Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal's death in student violence here on August 27 last year.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan allegedly labelled the death as a ''tragedy'' even as a Crime Investigation Department (CID) inquiry was underway. Consequently, the deceased's son Himanshu submitted a plea against Mr Chouhan.

''Ill health prevented Ms Devi from deposing yesterday. Several witnesses have already deposed,'' Petitioner's Counsel Kailash Nagar said today. The bench fixed February 13 as the date for recording Ms Devi's statement.

Following the CID probe, a murder case was registered. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad state unit's then President Shashiranjan Singh Akela, Secretary (Organisation) Vimal Tomar and four ABVP workers were arrested. They are in judicial custody at the Central Jail here.
