Marriage of 21 couples solemnised at simple function

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) In a unique social statement aimed at educating people to shun ''pomp and show in marriages'', weddings of 21 couples were solemnised at a simple ceremony here.

As many as 21 couples, including a visually impaired couple, belonging to a lower strata, were married at a function amid the presence of eminent people from several walks of life.

The "Community marriage" was organised by the Adarsh Ramlila Committee at a function attended by BJP MLA Mange Ram Garg, BJP national secretary Shyam Jaju, Delhi State general secretary Pawan Sharma, former Union Minister Sanjay Paswan and CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal.

Later, addressing the reception function, several leaders called upon the government to adopt community marriages as one of the priorities of community development.

''Such functions abolish community discrimination and strengthen the bond of humanism,''they said.
