Head constable sentenced in dowry case
Ratlam, MP, Jan 21 (UNI) A local court has sentenced a head constable and his wife to ten years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each for abetting the suicide of their daughter-in-law after harassing her for dowry.
According to the prosecution, Jagmohan's son Devesh married Bhind-resident Hemshikha who immolated herself on June 20, 2005 -- just four months after marriage -- as she was harassed for not bringing a gold chain in dowry.
Judge R C Malviya handed down the sentence yesterday to Jagmohan and Shakuntala. The duo were also sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment for dowry harassment.
