'Green Gold' seized from Army vehicle in Kashmir

Baramulla, Jan 21 (UNI) Forest officials today seized a large quantity of illicit Deodar timber, also known as 'Green Gold', from an Army vehicle in this north Kashmir district today, official sources said.

They said officials of the Forest Department conducted a surprise search of several vehicles, which were part of an Army convoy, at the Arampora check-post in Azad Gunj area of Baramulla district.

During the check, the forest officials seized an Army truck carrying 63 cu ft of illicit Deodar timber.

The convoy of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was on its way from Lolab in Kupwara to Drass in Kargil.

While the officials seized the timber, the truck was later released and handed over to the Army authorities.
