Fresh violence in Bangalore

Bangalore, Jan 21 (UNI) Police lobbed tear gas shells after lathi charge found futile to quell the mob which indulged in large scale violence in three police Station limits during 'Shoba Yatra' taken out by Vishwa Hindu Parishat activities in the City today.

Large scale stone pelting and torching of several buses, autorickshaws, two-wheelers and shops were reported. Police resorted to lobbing of tear gas shells after lathi charge found to be futile to disperse the mobs which indulged in violence.

Three bus and Five Autorickshaw were torched by the mob in Commercial Street, Bharatinagar and Shivajinagar areas. One shop was completely gutted in the fire.

More than 300 people were arrested on charges of riots and Prohibitory orders were implemented in trouble torn areas.

One person was seriously injured in the violence and was hospitalised, Police added.

Commissioner of Police Neelam Achutha Rao said that additional forces were deployed in the trouble torne areas and the situation was under control but tense.

It may be recalled here that on January 19, violence had broken out during a procession taken out to condemn the hanging of former Iraq President Sadam Hussain. The procession was taken out to reach Public meeting organised by former Railway Minister and Senior Congress leader Jaffer Shariff.
