D.Lit degree conferred on Dr N Rajam

Allahabad, Jan 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Rajshri Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) conferred the Doctor of Literature (D.lit) degree on Padmabhushan Dr N Rajam for establishing new standards in the music world.

The degree was presented yesterday by UP Governor T V Rajeshvar and chancellor of the UPRTOU at its third convocation here.

Dr Rajam is a brilliant solo violinist. Her contribution to the violin world is uncomparable like that of Bharat Ratna late Bismillah Khan to the shehnai.

A celebrated disciple of late Pt Omkar Nath Thakur, Rajam has breathed a new life in all aspects of Music, Dhrupad, Khayal, Thumri, Bhajan, Sugam Sangeet and Tappa. She has also been a music teacher at the Banaras Hindu University for four decades.
