CPI(ML) agitated over CID clean chit to SP Deepak Verma

Ranchi, Jan 21 (UNI) Agitated over the CID report giving clean chit to Suprintendent of Police (Special branch) Deepak Verma in five-year-old Umesh Ojha encounter case, the CPI(ML) today termed the report as politically motivated.

Party secretary Shubhendu Sen here said they would launch agitation against the state government.

The findings of the report were biased, he said and described the inquiry as a "political conspiracy" to save the then Hazaribagh SP Deepak Verma from the alleged false encounter.

Mr Sen said on one side the state government was not revealing the facts of the V D Ram report and on the other side a separate CID inquiry was conducted in the matter.

Mr Sen said the party would burn the effigy of Chief Minister Madhu Koda and Mr Verma on January 24.

Umesh Ojha, an active member of an ultra outfit, was killed in 2002.

His wife Basanti Devi lodged a complaint at Barhi police station in Hazaribagh district, alleging that his husband was killed in a false encounter after being abducted from Barhi when he demanded share in the money recovered from the maoist ultras' hideout in Churchu forest area, as assured by Mr Verma.

Mr Verma along with two sub-inspectors was facing charges of killing Umesh Ojha and bungling the money.

Recently the CID had given clean chit to Mr Verma in both matters.
