CPI (M) demands probe over fund misuse by SVU

Tirupati, Jan 21 (UNI) The CPI (M) Chittoor District unit today demanded the Andhra Pradesh Government to constitute a 'House Committee' to probe the alleged irregularities in the implementation of various civil works by the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Engineering Department here.

Party secretary K Murali said though the state Vigilance Commission had confirmed the irregularities in its report submitted to the Director General of Vigilance, the real facts were not made available known to the public, a release said here.

Demanding a thorough probe over alleged 'fund misuse' in construction works at Kadapa and at the University campus, he alleged that the SVU had engaged a Hyderabad-based private consultancy for work estimation.

When the SVU Engineering Department had its own eligible staff, a huge amount was paid to the consultancy for estimating P G Centre works at Kadapa he said and alleged that the SVU had paid Rs three crore as advance to a contractor for PG Centre works against norms and rules.
