55 bovine animals rescued, seven arrested

Jammu, Jan 21: Police have arrested seven smugglers and recovered fifty five bovine animals from five trucks on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district.

Police said three trucks carrying 32 bovine animals towards Srinagar were intercepted at Kud later, the trucks were seized and five persons including three drivers were arrested.

The accused were identified as drivers Jasbir Singh, Bansi Lal, Tarseem Lal and two smugglers Bashir Ahmed and Mohammad Latif, both residents of Miran Sahib.

In another incident, police recovered 23 bovine animals from two trucks and arrested both the drivers, identified as Mulkh Raj and Feroz Ahmed, from Jekhani area of Udhampur district.

A case has been registered.
