12-year boy killed police firing, a constable receives stab injury

Bangalore, Jan 21 (UNI) A 12-year old boy was killed in police firing, even as a police constable sustained stab injuries, in the fresh violence that broke out in three police station limits in the City today.

Police said that the boy was killed in Kamaraj road when the firing was opened after lobbing of tear gas shells and lathi charge found to be futile to disperse the mob which indulged in torching vehicles besides pelting stones on wayside shops.

Bowring Hospital sources said that in all 15 people injured were admitted.

More than 300 people were taken into custody in connection with the violence.

Prohibitory Orders under section 144 has been clamped and the situation was stated to be tense but under control.

Large scale violence broke out during 'Shobha Yatra' taken out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishat activists.

It may be recalled here that on January 19, a mob attacked the processionists who were to participate in a public meeting organised by former Union Railway Minister and Senior Congress leader C K Jaffer Shariff to condemn hanging of former Iraq President Saddam Hussain.
