Two killed, ten injured in blast

Guwahati, Jan 20 (UNI) The ULFA today chose Tinsukia in upper Asom for their evening blasts killing two and injuring 10, while security forces killed two top ULFA militant in separate incidents in the past 24 hours.

According to official source, the explosions occurred at Chamber road, the main commercial hub of the busy Tinsukia district. At least two were killed and 10 injured in the blast.

They were shifted to Tinsukia civil hospital. The blast occurred at 1830 hours.

Another blast occurred at Diphu ariound the same time. But no report of any casualty was received so far.

Meanwhile, a top ULFA militant killed along Assam-Arunachal border while another at the outskirt of the Guwahati city. In the Gorchuk incident near Guwahati, the police and ULFA were engaged in an encounter in the morning and after an hour of crossfire, one ULFA was found dead, but another managed to flee.

Police recovered a few grenade and couple of letters as well as notes about possible site of bomb blast till the National games.

Meanwhile, army sources said troops of 7/11 Gorkha Regiment killed self-styled corporal Palashmoni Barua alias Bibhisan Chetia of the group's 28th battalion 'A' was killed. The two others managed to escape.

Sources said the army's 'Operation Clear' has been intensified to flush out ULFA rebels from their camps in Tirap, Changlang and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Dibru Saikhowa and Lakhipathar Reserve Forests in Assam along the border.

Troops have also fanned out to the forest villages of Nagajan, Mothola, Kakopathar, Dimokhula, Laila, Chiring Chuburi and Samuguri in Tinsukia and Toloi, Chepon and Tengakhat in Dibrugrah where house-to-house operations have been launched.
