SAD welcomes DGP's transfer

Jalandhar, Jan 20 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today welcomed the Election Commission's decision to transfer Punjab's Director General of Police S S Virk for conducting free and fair assembly elections in the state.

SAD general secretary and former Union Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that his party wanted Mr Virk's suspension, however, it welcomed the commission's action.

Mr Badal said case under anti-corrpution act should be filed against Mr Virk.

It is to recall that SAD was demanding the DGP's transfer for holding free and fair assembly elections in the state, charging him with working for the ruling Congress. The party had also submitted formal representation before the EC to press upon the demand.
