Project aimed at technical upgradation of orchards
Jammu, Jan 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government today informed the Legislative Assembly about the Indo-Bulgarian project spread over an area of 130 hectares at Zainapora farm of the horticulture department.
In reply to a question, Minister for Horticulture Mohammad Dilawar Mir said the project was not a commercial activity and its primary objective was technical upgradation of the orchards in the state.
Revenue accured during the last four years from the farm in lakh was Rs 8.13 in 2003-04, Rs 16.29 in 2004-05, Rs 30.37 in 2005-06 and Rs 12.51 in 2006-07 ending November 2006.
Also the Minister for irrigation, flood control, tourism and PHE, Mr Mir said various measures have been taken to boost the apple production through the project which include study, adaptability of different kinds and varieties of fruit plants and clonal propagation.
