Oppn slams, DPA hails Gov's address
Chennai, Jan 20 (UNI) The main opposition AIADMK and the MDMK today slammed the Governor's address to the Tamil Nadu Assembly as ''an exercise in futile,'' while the allies of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) hailed the Government policies announced in the address.
AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa said in a statement that there was nothing new in the Governor's address and the DMK Government was attempting to ''hoodwink'' the people.
Terming as ''eye wash'' the Government's announcement on setting up a welfare board for farmers, she said the scheme was already implemented by the previous DMK Government and turned out to be a failure.
She flayed the Government for dropping the Farmers Security Scheme, implemented by her previous regime benefitting 1.99 crore people.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the Government's schemes of financial assistance for unemployed youth, rice at Rs two per kg, free colour TV sets and free gas stoves had not reached all beneficiaries. Only DMK men had benefitted from the schemes, she charged.
