Meghalaya police nabs five Asom-based militants

Shillong, Jan 20(UNI) Meghalaya police have arrested five Asom-based militants, including three Dima Halam Daogah and two from different parts of the state, during the past 24 hours.

Police said an ULFA cadre was arrested, along with one of its gunrunner Wansanlang Rympei, from Bhoirymbong area near Umroi airport in state's Ri-Bhoi district on January 18.

Police also seized three kilograms of RDX and a 9mm pistol from a vehicle in which they were travelling.

Police said the ULFA cadre entered the state following the ongoing massive operation against the ULFA in Asom. Rympei, believed to be ULFA's gunrunner, was said to have provided logistics support to the ULFA in the state.

In another breakthrough, the state police arrested three Dima Halim Daogah (DHD) cadres from Laitumkhrah area here yesterday.

Police said the trio--Anuk Sengyung, Debojit Borthari and Nomikh Kamprui--had been cooling their heels here for quite some time.

Meanwhile, police are interrogating all the five arrested militants before handing them over to Asom police.
