Kumaraswamy to expand cabinet on Jan 25

Mysore, Jan 20: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said that the cabinet of the JD(S)-BJP government would be expanded on January 25 with induction of five new ministers.

Speaking to mediapersons at Suttur Village near here, he said it would be an expansion and not a reshuffle of the cabinet. "No one will be dropped nor there would be any change in portfolios. Three from JD(S) and two new ministers from the BJP would be inducted.

They would take oath just before the assembly session which begins on that day," he said.

Asked about the contradict statements from the leaders of the coalition partners, he admitted that there were some difference of opinion but there is no dissident.

Replying to queries on waiver of farm loans, he said that only loans taken from cooperative institutions would be waived. He had already asked the authorities to submit a report on the quantum of amount to be waived.

Mr Kumaraswamy was apparently upset over the demand of opposition Congress party demanding announcement of waiver in the budget and also announce the date was mentioned. "The Congress people need not be in such a hurry. I know very well how fast they acted to solve farmers problems when they ruled, he added.

Referring to the comments of former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramiah that ban on sale of arrack was not possible, the Chief Minister said "when we work for the welfare of the people, we should have commitment, nothing would be impossible if we are committed to a cause." On the widespread opposition on making wearing of helmet compulsory in the state, the Chief Minister said that he had too was convinced about the hardships caused by the helmets. We will take a positive decision based on the public opinion, he assured.
