HC committee to check criminalisation of politics

Allahabad, Jan 20: Allahabad High Court has constituted a four-member committee to suggest ways and means for checking the process of criminalisation of politics.

The committee shall also suggest ways and means for ensuring that investigation and trial of criminal cases against public representatives is conducted fairly and expeditiously.

It will also suggest ways for insulating administration and police from extraneous pressures.

Former UP DGP Prakash Singh, senior Uttar Pradesh police officer Sulkhan Singh, senior IAS officer Sanjay Bhoosreddi and government counsel V S Mishra will be the committee members.

After passing the order, a division bench comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Amar Saran observed ''we expect that the state government shall fully cooperate with the committee and provide access to all materials, documents and other records/facilities to interview individuals/officers as may be sought by the committee.''
