Haryana to export Basmati rice to Canada

Chandigarh, Jan 20 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to export superfine quality of Basmati rice to Canada.

This was conveyed by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty who called on him along with a business delegation here today.

Haryana is already exporting 70 per cent of the total rice being exported from India, the Chief Minister said.

Mr Hooda informed the delegation that with just 1.37 per cent of the country's geographical area and 1.97 per cent of the country's total population, Haryana had achieved the distinction of having the highest per capita income in the country.

He said Haryana was manufacturing more than 50 per cent of the passenger cars, 25 per cent of tractors and 50 per cent of the motorcycles being produced in India. It also manufactured more than 30 per cent of the refrigerators, 25 per cent bycycles and sanitary ware.

The small-scale industrial units of Haryana also manufactured 20 per cent of the scientific instruments being exported out of the country.

Mr Dalton McGuinty urged the Chief Minister to visit Ontario in Canada so that bilateral cooperation could be further strengthened as the both states had a number of similarities.

The Chief Minister assured him that he would visit Canada to explore the possibility of investment by the multi-national companies of Canada.
