EC transfers Punjab DGP

New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has shifted Punjab director general of police S.S. Virk following complaints from the Akali Dal.

The party said Mr Virk was working as a poll agent for the ruling Congress party.

The EC has now asked the Punjab government for a list of police officers who can replace Mr Virk for the coming polls.

The commision has directed the state chief secretary that Mr Virk should not be assigned any poll duty in the interest of free and fair elections.
