Congress 'betrayed' faith but SP to continue support-UPA

Allahabad, Jan 20 (UNI) The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh today said even though Congress has 'betrayed' its faith by withdrawing support from the state government, the party would continue to support the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.

Talking to newspersons here, SP General Secretary Beni Prasad Verma said in the greater 'interest' of the people, his party does not want to provide a chance to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to come to power at the Centre.

''If the UPA government has courage, it should dismiss our government and impose President's rule as the Supreme Court would quash it the next day. We will prove our majority in the house on January 25,'' Mr Verma added.

''All the political parties are hatching a conspiracy against the SP-led UP government but we are not going to be afraid of all this. The SP will get absolute majority in the next Assembly polls,'' he claimed.
