British national arrested for fraud

Chennai, Jan 20 (UNI) A British national was arrested by a special team of Chennai City Police for withdrawing Rs 30 lakh from various ATMs using fake credit cards.

An official release here said the British national, Elango, had sent the withdrawn amount to the United Kingdom via hawala.'' Channels.

Apart from his passport, about 28 ATM cards, including top up cards, two cars, RC books and a cell phone were seized from him.

Acting on information that some people were using fake credit cards at ATM centres of ICICI bank in Porur, the team headed by Joint Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Sandeep Rai Rathore, laid a trap and arrested the British national.

Interrogation of the British national revealed that he had illegally withdrawn more than Rs 30 lakh from ATMs of State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Travancore, Bank of Baroda and ICICI bank.

A case had been registered at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College Police Station under section 465, 468, 471 and 420 of IPC.
