BJP welcomes Punjab DGP's removal
New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) The BJP today welcomed the Election Commission's decision to transfer Punjab's Director General of Police S S Virk for conducting free and fair assembly elections in the state.
BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said that one more land scandal embroiling Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had come out so also his plans to misuse the police to scuttle the probe. ''The EC had taken a right decision,'' he remarked.
He said the Shiromani Akali Dal had levelled allegations of a Rs 240 crore deal between the CM and the DGP for building an International Convention Centre at Zirakpur near Chandigarh by the younger brother of the officer in question.
