Badal demands sacking and prosecution of Virk
Chandigarh, Jan 20 (UNI) Hailing as ''timely and exemplary'', the Election Commission's decision to shift Punjab Director General of Police S S Virk, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) today demanded his immediate sacking and prosecution.
The party which had demanded Mr Virk's ouster from the top Punjab Police post accusing him of corruption and of being a ''Congress agent'' held that the EC's action formed sufficient ground for a prima facie case against the officer.
In a statement here, SAD president Parkash Singh Badal also demanded that action should also be taken against', Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
Mr Badal claimed that by accepting his party's contention that the DGP had amassed wealth far in excess of his known sources income, the EC had cleared the decks for criminal proceedings against Mr Virk under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Mr Badal also said that if the SAD-BJP alliance wins the assembly polls, the entire case would be looked into legaly.
