Amarinder files nomination papers from Patiala

Patiala, Jan 20: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today filed his nomination papers as Congress candidate for the Patiala Vidhan Sabha constituency today.

He filed two sets of nomination papers before the returing officer at Patiala for the February 13 polls. His son Raninder Singh also filed his papers as 'covering' (independent) candidate.

Capt Singh was elected from this this constituency in the last elections in 2002, defeating Sarup Singh Sehgal of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) by 33,583 votes. This time the C M will be pitted against SAD candidate Surjit Singh Kohli.

Amidst tight security arrangments, Capt Singh started in a procession by paying his respects at the Samadhi of Baba Ala Singh, one of his ancestors inside the historic Quila Mubarak. He then moved through Purani Kotwali Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Adalat Bazar, Dharampura Bazar and reached Kali Mata Mandir on Mall Road and paid obeisance. He also visited Peer-De-Samadhi, a 'mazaar' of a Muslim 'faqir'.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his MP wife Parneet Kaur, his mother Rajmata Mohinder Kaur, his daughter and his son.

After filing his nomination papers, the Chief Minister and his family members paid obeisance at the historic Gurudwara Dukhniwaran Sahib.
