Twenty nine Indians serving jail terms in Qatar
Doha, Jan 20: Twenty-nine Indians, including ten women, are serving varying jail terms here after being convicted of various crimes.
Among these are two male prisoners, who were convicted for murder and their case is in appeal in a higher court, said the soures.
The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad, last October, pardoned eight Indian prisoners during the holy month of Ramadan. They were -- Devasu Joniaban, F Pilakhal, T S Yana Rajan, P K Nidan, Samay Kanan, Zubair Pathicherry, Syed Asim Afzal and Ppakti Sanjeev.
However, these prisoners are yet to be released.
The procedure, involving the release, take some time to complete ll formailities, like preparing their travel documents.
The reports further stated that 146 Indian are held at various detention centres as they await deportation.
Meanwhile, the Indian Mission has claimed that 182 Indians died in Qatar last year.
