Toll may touch 66 in AP boat capsize

Kurnool, Jan 19: The toll in yesterday's boat capsize in the river Krishna may be as high as 66, sources said today.

According to preliminary investigation by Revenue officials, the dead included 17 women and 19 children.

The overcrowded country boat carrying about 75 pilgrims capsized in the river yesterday.

The victims belonged to Nandikotjur, Pagidyala and Jupadu Mandals of the district. They were on their way to jatra at Singota on the other side of the river in Mahabubnagar District when the mishap occurred.

Locals rescued 15 people and rushed them to the hospital in Kallapur. Ten people were admitted in the hospital while those with minor injuries were given first aid and discharged.

Five boats and divers have been pressed into service to retrieve the bodies.
