TN Assembly session begins Jan 20
Chennai, Jan 19: A brief session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly begins here tomorrow with the customary Governor's address.
The session is likely to be stormy with the main opposition AIADMK gearing up to take the Treasury Benches to task on Mullaperiyar and reservation issues.
The Madras High Court's split verdict on Corporation elections, implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) and the reported acquisition of farm lands to set up special economic zones (SEZs) are also expected to come up for discussion in the House.
Having fulfilled most of its election promises, the ruling DMK is confident of facing the Opposition onslaught with the support of its allies.
Meanwhile, Speaker R Avudaiyappan said he would read Tamil version of the Governor's address, a practice dispensed with during the previous AIADMK regime.
After a general discussion on the Governor's address, the Chief Minister would give his reply.
The Business Advisory Committee, which would meet on the opening day, would decide the duration and the business to be transacted in the House.
The Speaker said no bill was expected to be taken up during the session which might last for a week.
